Spring Field Trip

SATURDAY APRIL 26, 2014

An historical walking tour along Goffle Brook in Goffle Brook Park, Hawthorne, NJ.

Our stroll along Park paths and roads will begin at a former Indian campsite, go around a millpond and pass the house where the first murders
in Passaic County took place. Several historic houses once stood on the Park grounds, which were designed by Olmstead Associates around 1930.

Other highlights include:
     The Doremus-Rea House
The former sites of the Marcellus-Vreeland and Ryerson houses
The site of Lafayette's encampment of 2 brigades of light infantry in October and November 1780
A nearby 19th Century Dutch cemetery and an adjacent Jewish Cemetery

The tour will begin promptly at 10:00 AM. We will meet and assemble in the parking lot
of the county-owned John W. Rea House located at 675 Goffle Road, Hawthorne, NJ.

Tour Leader: Tom Fitzpatrick.     Hike Coordinator: Edward J. Lenik.

Questions? Call Ed Lenik at 973-835-0770 between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
