About NJHHS

We hold ten monthly meetings, which are held on the last Wednesday of each month at 7:00 P.M. unless otherwise noted on our "Announcements" page, February through November. At nearly every meeting we have a program on local history or on a general historical topic. We also arrange exhibitions, hikes, book sales, conferences, and special events at Ringwood Manor State Park, as well as publish research.

The Society is a 100% volunteer membership organization. Join the Society and help preserve and support our rich heritage for future generations.

Mission Statement

The mission of the North Jersey Highlands Historical Society is to serve as a central organization to collect and preserve the material cultural heritage of the northeastern Highlands region of New Jersey, with a particular interest in the Ringwood Manor State Park and New Jersey’s early iron industry, encouraging public and private awareness and understanding of the region’s heritage.

The NJHHS achieves its mission through the following channels:

    • By holding monthly programs
    • By sponsoring field trips
    • By maintaining a research Library and Collections
    • By publishing and distributing appropriate printed material
    • By sponsoring the annual Highlands Conference
    • By sponsoring historical events such as the annual July 4th Celebration and Victorian Christmas, both held at Ringwood Manor
    • By participating as an Officially Recognized Friends Organization at Ringwood Manor State Park
